Established in 2005 as an in-house expert network at Bear Stearns.

Following Bear Stearns' collapse and acquisition by J.P. Morgan in 2008, Primary Insight became independent in 2009 through a management buyout.

Funding for its independence was provided by the Hidary Group, led by the founder of Vista Research.
